Pharmacy Supervisor (Compounded Preparations Quality Program)

Duties include, but are not limited to:
Management and coordination of all pharmacists, technicians, trainees and other supportive personnel involved in sterile compounding and/or hazardous drug management. Assist with assuring quality control of work to those preparing sterile products through audits/inspection upon completion of work. Direct and oversee all assigned operational, technical and professional personnel, with a particular emphasis on assuring that all compliance requirements are met in the Sterile Compounding and Hazardous Drug Management areas, due to their inherent high risk status in regard to the care of our patients. Develop and implement appropriate procedures, oversee and assure facility compliance with VHA, Joint Commission, EPA, OSHA, NIOSH, FDA and other applicable laws, regulations and standards, ensuring competency of personnel, and assuring environmental control of all compounding areas. Analyzing real and potential drug-related medical problems and implementing corrective action to ensure that patients receive optimal drug therapy. Provide medication counseling to patients including, but not limited to, any changes made in the current medication regimen. Participate in patient care by reviewing charts, evaluating pertinent laboratory data, drug-drug and drug-nutrient interactions, monitoring for adverse drug effects, screening for allergies and may participate in patient care rounds. Review all medication orders for appropriateness, drug selection, dosage, route of administration and the amount, prior to dispensing. Apply standards relating to all aspects of distribution and control of scheduled and non-scheduled drugs. Assure the safe and appropriate use of medications, and be an advocate of rational drug therapy. Works closely with the Pharmacy ADPAC on the integration of Pharmacy packages with CPRS, BCMA, and other VistA packages, ensuring proper functioning of all aspects of the CSP program. Work Schedule:

Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree (you must submit a copy of your transcript to receive credit for your education). Graduates of foreign pharmacy degree programs meet the educational requirement if the graduate is able to provide proof of achieving the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Commission (FPGEC) Certification, which includes passing the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) and the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test (TOEFL iBT) (you must submit a copy of your transcript to receive credit for your education). Licensure:
Full, current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia (you must submit a copy of your license to receive credit for this requirement). Creditable Experience Knowledge of Professional Pharmacy Practices:
To be creditable, the experience must have demonstrated the use of knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with professional pharmacy practice. Professional practice means paid/non-paid employment as a professional or unlicensed graduate pharmacist as defined by the appropriate licensing board. Residency and Fellowship Training:
Residency and fellowship training programs in a specialized area of clinical pharmacy practice may be substituted for creditable experience on a year-for-year basis. The pharmacy residency program must be accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). A fellowship program that is not accredited by the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) will need to have comparable standards for experience to be creditable (Professional Standards Board refers to the Deputy Chief Consultant for Professional Practice for the determination). Experience:
Qualifying experience must be at a level comparable to pharmacy experience at the next lower level. Experience as a Graduate Pharmacist is creditable provided the candidate was used as a professional pharmacist (under supervision) and subsequently passed the appropriate licensure examination. Part-time Experience. Part-time experience as a professional pharmacist is credited according to its relationship to the full-time workweek. For example, a pharmacist employed 20 hours a week, or on a 1/2-time basis, would receive 1 full-time workweek of credit for each 2 weeks of service Grade Determinations. In addition to the basic requirements for employment in paragraph 2, the following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates. GS-13
Experience:
Toqualify at the GS-13 level you must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. Examples of qualifying experience include, but are not limited to reviewing, interpreting, and verifying medication orders for appropriateness; processing and filling medication orders; interacting with and making recommendations to other clinical staff regarding medication therapy ordered to ensure safe and effective care; reviewing the patient's medications, allergies, labs, and other pertinent information from the medical record to identify and solve medication-related problems; contacting providers as appropriate; documenting recommendations and interventions; providing refill extensions and partial medication supplies; taking health and medication histories; performing medication reconciliation; providing drug information; assisting in formulary management including therapeutic substitutions, non-formulary reviews and medication usage evaluations; documenting and assessing adverse drug events (ADEs); assisting in medical emergencies; providing oversight of technical staff in all aspects of medication distribution. Pharmacists assigned to this position must demonstrate the following KSAs:
Ability to effectively supervise subordinate staff. Ability to communicate orally and in writing to persuade and influence clinical and management decisions. Expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards pertaining to pharmacy. Skill in managing people or programs. References:

Experience:
IV experience is desired but Supervisory experience is preferred; Demonstrated supervisory/administrative skills. Familiarity with USP 797/800 Regulations. Physical Requirements:
Moderate lifting of approximately 20 lbs., straight pulling, pushing and reaching above shoulder for up to 2 hours, walking for 2-4 hours and standing 4-8 hours.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
