WHEN Tour Supervisor/Nurse Officer of the Day (NOD)-RN

-The NOD maintains professional and productive relationships with other members of the nursing leadership team, and all other members of the healthcare team. The NOD acts in collaboration with the unit Nurse Managers to develop staffing plans for all clinical units throughout the facility, consulting with service ACNS as appropriate. The NOD effectively manages various program resources (financial, human, material, and information) to facilitate safe, effective, and quality care to the patient population. He/she demonstrates leadership while delivering and enhancing patient centered care through an interdisciplinary team approach. -The NOD is also responsible and accountable for maintaining training required and may be assigned additional duties as area needs require. -The NOD must possess strong interpersonal skills and is expected to communicate efficiently and effectively with all members of the patient care team, as well as relate courteously and appropriately to all internal and external customers. The NOD must be able to push-pull 35 pounds and must be ale to stand for prolonged periods of time. Finally, the NOD is expected to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment, and demonstrate consistent effective communication skills and exemplary professional behaviors; fostering positive interdisciplinary collaborative relationships is essential for continuity of care that is safe and quality driven. -Nursing practice emphasizes high promotion, accountability, assessment, education, infection control, safety and psychological support. A multidisciplinary approach is used to assist the patient, family and/or significant other(s) to attain optimal functioning ability. Additionally, measurable outcomes and nursing interventions are individualized. -The NOD functions within a nursing process framework for problem-solving and care facilitation; assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. Job duties are focused on facilitating disease prevention and achieving optimum mental and physical health and well-being. -The NOD will assist with implementing and evaluating educational programs/activities based on assessed learning needs of staff. He/she works collaboratively with unit supervisors and Learning Systems in assessing and developing staff's competencies to ensure provision of quality nursing care. He/she also provides consultation and education to nursing staff in areas such as new equipment, mandatory review, cross training , and continuing education. He/she demonstrates leadership through developing and coordinating programs to improve quality of care and organizational processes. -The practice of each registered nurse is based on knowledge, experience, and research and has direct impact on patient outcomes in the assigned area and for the facility. The registered nurse is responsible for performing the duties/responsibilities of the assigned role in a manner that reflects the educational, experiential and competency requirements outlined in the four dimensions of the Standards of Professional Performance:
Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry as applicable and to the grade of the RN. Work Schedule:
Weekends, Holiday, Evenings and Nights. The tours of duty for this position may include a combination of 8 and 10 hour shifts, predominantly on the evening and night tours. Current tours of duty include 7:

Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant:
The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Grade Determinations:
The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree. Reference:

-2 to 3 years successful nursing practice in medical/surgical and/or geriatric, and/or mental health nursing degree, preferably a BSN from a National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education accredited nursing program, and approved by the State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the nurse. -Certification from a VA recognized approved certifying body is preferred, such as certifications in Emergency Nursing, Ambulatory Care Nursing, Medical/Surgical Nursing, Geriatric Nursing, Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing or other related certification is preferred. -The RN must possess the skills needed to effectively work with others to communicate directions and offer assistance. -The RN must demonstrate well-developed organizational skills, as well as skills in teaching, consultation and communication and require minimal direct supervision. Required on going education, training and competency validation:
-Basic Life Support -Advanced Cardiac Life Support -The completion of orientation and on going mandatory education. -Competency assessment and validation. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
