Medical Administration Specialist

Duties are but not limited to:
Exercises non-policy making decisions and actions regarding administrative matters; Maintains continuity of functions and provides full medical administrative support to clinical and administrative Medical Center Staff; Serves as a health benefits advisor and supports special programs within the Business Office by commencing and completing the enrollment process for new Veterans and advising Veterans about their medical benefits when applicable; Manages Beneficiary Travel, Personal Funds of Patients, Decedent Affairs, basic Medical Care Cost Fund (MCCF) and other program areas on the off-tours; Provides administrative expertise, guidance and advice to clinical staff concerning administrative matters necessary for the efficient operation of the Medical Center; Receives and responds to non-routine patient inquiries and other administrative inquires from concerned Veterans, families, visitors, law enforcement officials, representatives from private hospitals, Congressional Offices and military personnel; Arranges all modes of transportation via air, ambulance, commercial air, taxi, bus or independent transports when the need arises on the off-tours; Determines extent of release of medical or social data from patient's records; Functions as Patient Representative during off-tours; Maintains good public and media relations; Ensures that there is adequate administrative coverage for Ward Clerks and ED clerks during off tour emergencies; Provides daily reports/log of all activities occurring during the off tour; Other duties as assigned; Promotion Potential:
The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. Work Schedule:

Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note:

Specialized
Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-7 (for a GS -9) or GS-5 (for a GS-7) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
knowledge of medical organization functions, specialties and programs. Knowledge of applicable public laws, VA policy and regulations, etc. OR, Education:
Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for the GS 9 grade level you must have a master's or equivalent graduate degree. OR, 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. For a GS 7 - 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement. OR, Combination:
Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of specialized experience and education beyond high school. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

The work requires much walking between offices and floors of the hospital building with the frequent requirement of lifting objects such as suitcases, clothing or other administrative items. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
