The Intensive Care Staff RN must be proficient in the care of adult patients with critical nursing care requirements including telemetry monitoring and keeping them hemodynamically stable. This includes but is not limited to continuous cardiac monitoring, assisting in the insertion of invasive lines such as arterial lines, Swan-Ganz catheters and maintenance, hemodynamic monitoring, multiple vasoactive drips, mechanical ventilation, EKG/rhythm strip interpretation, moderate sedation, post-surgical recovery and stabilization; responds to the Rapid Response System and Cardiopulmonary arrests in the medical center. The Intensive Care Staff RN may also be assigned and required to cover the Emergency Department, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, Telemetry or other units, as area needs require.Other duties/responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
The RN role includes initial and ongoing, physical and psychosocial assessment/reassessment to determine the patient's nursing care needs via the synthesis of data from various assessments, problem identification, care planning, monitoring and evaluation of the patient. The RN is actively involved in the following patient concepts of care:
support systems; strengths/areas for growth, advocacy, discharge planning, and collaboration with other healthcare providers to optimize wellness and comfort. The RN will also give immediate attention and response to critical events and assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the patient's experience with pain. The RN is expected to facilitate work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment working as a patient advocate and build strong teams within multiple levels of interdisciplinary staff to deliver and improve holistic care. The RN practices within a challenging RN scope which includes restorative, curative, rehabilitative, maintainable or palliative care based on the individual patient. The Intensive Care Staff RN is expected to work independently within their scope of practice, according to policies, training and accepted VA practice. The Intensive Care Staff RN apprises the supervisor of controversial or very unusual clinical and administrative situations, and presents recommendations for solving them. Nursing practice is reviewed through annual competencies and proficiency. The Intensive Care Staff RN is also responsible and accountable for maintaining training required and may be assigned additional duties as area needs require. The ICU Staff RN is expected to communicate timely and effectively with all members of the patient care team, as well as relate courteously and appropriately to all internal and external customers. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant:
The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. English Language Proficiency:
RNs appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d). Grade Determinations:
The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's Degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing, a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. The population of male and female veterans served ranges from the adult, age 18, to the elderly adult, age 65 and over. This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
